Unexpected issues that can lead to divorce

Although most people go into a marriage with no thoughts of ever getting a divorce, the sad truth is that divorce does happen. While you may think divorce is more likely after a couple has children, that’s not actually the case. Rather, there are many unexpected issues that are causing Washington couples to head to divorce proceedings.

Job changes

It can be easy to get into the mindset that your partner will retain a stable job in the field that they’re in until retirement. The truth is that sometimes people decide to change up their job. Whether it’s relocating for a new position or opting for another career field in general, job changes can actually increase your risk of divorce.

Friends are doing it

While we’ve all heard the question of whether we’d jump off a bridge because everyone else was doing it, the reality is that sometimes people just like to jump on the bandwagon. Just as most of your friends seem to get married and have kids around the same time that you did, the same holds true for divorce. When a close family member or friend gets a divorce, it ups the chances that you’ll get one too.

Illness

When one partner develops a serious or chronic illness, it can increase their risk of getting a divorce. Illness can change the entire dynamic of a relationship, not to mention the fact that it can bring on debt, pain and issues with loss of self. Some couples simply find it hard to cope with taking on new roles in their relationship as the sick individual steps back from some of theirs.

Divorce is something that most married couples don’t give much thought to early on. However, life changes, and humans adapt differently. If you think that divorce may be on your horizon, it may be a good idea to get the assistance of an experienced lawyer to help you through the proceedings.
